Using Notepad


To open a document

  1. On the File menu, click Open.

  2. In the File Open dialog, double-click the folder that contains the document you want to open. Click the document name, and then click Open.

To create a new document

  1. On the File menu, click New, then begin typing.

  2. To save the new file, on the File menu click Save As, and then type a name in File name.


To save changes to a document

To delete text

  1. Select the text you want to delete.

  2. To remove text so that you can place it in another part of the document, click Edit and then click Cut.

    Or, to remove text entirely from the document, click Delete.

To search for text

  1. In the document, click where you want to start searching.

  2. On the Search menu, click Find.

  3. In Find what, enter the text you want to search for.

  4. Click Find Next.

  5. To find additional instances of the same text, press F3.


To insert the time and date in a document

  1. Move the insertion point to where you want to add the time and date.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Time/Date.
